Santa Croce, Part Duex!

I was at the steps of Santa Croce again this morning, this time for class. Again it was raining and I had to take notes with one hand while holding my clipboard and umbrella with the other. When we got inside we found out that the frecos we were going to be studying were being filmed by the BBC, so we wouldn't be able see them. On that news my professor seemed pretty down... as nothing is seeming to go as scheduled for the class. On top of that we were supposed to be going to the famous Brancacci chapel filled with Masaccios that inspired all of the major Renaissance artists, but half the class was summoned to an immigration meeting--including me! I was so upset about having to miss the lecture--but Nero decided to cancel class again and said that he would arrange some sort of large make up class so we could see everything that we've missed so far. He walked those who were interested around to talk about some of the other interesting features of the church, including what I posted yesterday.

On the way out I ran back to the Michelangelo tomb and lingered awhile. In one of his letters he had written that he had wanted to be buried in the front of Santa Croce so that on Judgement Day, when the dead were arising from there tombs, the doors of Santa Croce would burst open and the first thing he would see would be Bunelleschi's Dome. Well, some of the custodians had just opened the enormous front doors. I peered out and unfortunately current day Florence had obstructed the view. : (

I had to leave right after to meet everyone at the student center to WALK again... further out than ever before to the immigration office. Luckily our time there is short.. all they had to do was compare our faces to our passports. After that I took the long walk home in the rain, but as soon as I had got to the house the clouds opened up and it was sunny again. On the chance it would rain again I stayed inside... but cruelly, it has been sunny all afternoon. I was tricked! The weather here has been crazier than in Florida!

We plan on going to the Lion's Fountain tonight to split a bottle of wine and use their free internet! No other plans except to pack for Rome. We'll be there Friday and Saturday. No plans yet for Sunday as well but I promise to post as soon as I can.

WOW - sounds like you are getting around pretty good, hope you are able to get back and see everything. Don't forget to make notes on your pictures while it's still fresh in your mind.
